Jaintia Shinnomul Songstha (JASHIS) is a non-government, non-profitable and non-political voluntary development organization. JASHIS works with marginalized, excluded and extreme poor people in remote and challenging areas of Sylhet Division under Sylhet, Sunamgonj and Hobigonj districts. JASHIS was established as an advocacy organization in 1983 and commenced its field-based activities in 1997. Since this time it has continued to grow and broaden its areas of assistance in response to the needs of the community.
We are grateful to all our past and present donors, partner organizations, our community level stakeholders, the Government of Bangladesh, and members of the General & Executive Committee who have and continue to extend support to JASHIS. I personally acknowledge their contribution and extend my heartfelt gratitude to all of them.
1.0 Background of JASHIS
JaintiaS hinnomul Songstha (JASHIS) is a non-governmental, non-profitable and non-political voluntary development organization. As a grassroots organization, JASHIS was established in 1983 and commenced its field-based operations in 1997. JASHIS works with marginalized, excluded and extreme poor people in remote and challenging areas of Sylhet, Sunamgonj and Hobigonj districts. Its key focus is the establishment of self-reliance, poverty alleviation, gender equality and the provision of basic education, health and legal services. JASHIS has 72 full-time and part-time staff committed to improving the quality of life for the extreme poor within its working localities. It currently has 08 active projects. The staff team is led by Executive Director Mr. ATM Badrul Islam, a Sylheti local with over 34 years experience in the local development sector.
1.1 Mission:
JASHIS’s mission is to bring about a ‘Social Movement’ in the area in which it works, through knowledge and skills capacity building initiatives, education and awareness campaigns, as well as fostering local leadership via the establishment of community led action groups to harness and make effective use of local resources.
1.2 Vision:
Establishment of a self-reliant, poverty free, fair and gender friendly locality.
1.3 Goal:
JASHIS’s goal is to assist economically vulnerable rural persons to develop greater organization, through mobilizing their skill & local resources to attain sustainable socio-economic development & improvements in quality of life.
1.4 Organizational Objectives:
- To organize economically vulnerable rural people around village based groups towards achieving self-reliance through implementing community led sustainable development programs
- Empowerment of women
- Income and employment generation
- To provide credit support to assist the poor to generate alternative family income opportunities and create self-employment.
- To ensure adolescent and women reproductive health
- To provide and promote low cost community based maternal & child health care, family planning and general health services
- Promote the basic rights of children, in particular access to education
- Good Governess and the establishment of fair& democratic processes
- Avocation of basic human rights
- Mass education and awareness raising
- To raise awareness & promote interest in modern agriculture techniques.
To ensure & rights Promote Disable People.
To raise awareness on safe sanitation practices and to ensure access to safe drinking water and hygienic latrines.
To develop human resource and skills capacity through training.
Disaster preparedness.
To ensure protection of natural resource and environment through community awareness.
